Apply for a transition extension

Transition extension request form

Use this form to apply for a transition period extension for superseded training products.

The online form is limited to one qualification. RTOs seeking an extension for more than one qualification from the same training package can email their request and supporting evidence to transitionrequest@asqa.gov.au.

In order to ensure there is adequate time to consider your request, applications should be submitted at least 180 days before the current transition period ends.

Transition arrangements

Review the Standards Clauses 1.26 to 1.27—Manage transition from superseded training products to understand responsibilities when transitioning to new training products.

Evidence of support

Provide evidence you have engaged with the relevant stakeholders regarding your request.

Stakeholders can include:

  • Industry Associations
  • Peak employer or employee bodies
  • Registered Training Organisations (RTOs)
  • State or Territory Training Authority
  • State or Territory Education Department
  • State or Territory Industry Regulators 

We require the following evidence for your application to be considered:

  • impact of changes to the training package qualification and/or units of competency on students’ ability to transition
  • impact of changes to the training package qualification and/or units of competency on specific industry needs
  • relevant State or Territory Training Authority (where apprentices/trainees or funding is involved)
  • relevant State or Territory Education Department (where school students are involved)
  • Industry Regulators (where a licensed training product is involved)
