Our approach
ASQA’s regulatory approach is risk-based and aimed at achieving quality education outcomes that balance the interests of the VET sector and students. Our role is to ensure that registered training organisations (training providers) educate students with the required skills and competencies for employment.
We work with other regulators and stakeholders to deliver best practice regulation. Managing risk is central to the way we operate and is outlined in our Regulatory Risk Framework.

Who we regulate
We regulate providers to ensure they deliver quality education and to build confidence in the value of VET sector qualifications.
We regulate:
- training providers that deliver VET qualifications and courses to students in Australia or offer Australian VET qualifications overseas
- providers that deliver VET courses to people who are living in Australia on student visas
- certain providers that deliver English Language Intensive Courses for Overseas Students (ELICOS).
We accredit:
- VET accredited courses to ensure they meet nationally approved standards, based on industry, enterprise, education, legislative and community needs.

- educating providers to reduce risk
- analysing intelligence to gain insights into provider conduct
- consulting and sharing more information sector-wide to clarify what risk is
- providing clear feedback and support for providers to encourage a culture that focuses on quality, continuous improvement through having robust systems to monitor and evaluate ongoing compliance with the Standards for providers
- routine sector monitoring using random sampling rather than risk-based selection to ensure public confidence in the quality of VET.
